Potomac Music is Northern Virginia’s home for all things music! We offer an award winning Kindermusik program for children ages birth – 7. Join us for one of our weekly classes or playdates! Potomac Music also offers one-on-one lessons on ALL instruments for children ages 5+ and adults, plus lots of small group classes, seasonal camps, bi-weekly Open Mic Nights, FREE outdoor live music during the summer, and best of all we have a wonderful community. The Young Actors Program nurtures creativity, develops vocal and physical skills, and enhances each young actors’ ability to perform and work together as part of an ensemble. This program is for students ages 10 to 17 and previous experience is not a requirement. Classes meet daily for three weeks. Students will spend their mornings training in Voice, Movement, and Musical Theatre. Using the tools taught in these classes, the Young Actors will work together to create original ensemble pieces. Afternoons are spent cultivating their acting skills with one of our most experienced faculty members. This includes playing theatre games, exploring improvisations, and developing monologues and scenes from modern and classical plays. Partners in Learning provides educational support to families and independent schools in the D.C. metro area. PIL offers one-on-one tutoring, enrichment, speech-language therapy, behavioral support, assessments, consulting, and professional development.
Specializations include supporting students with specific learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, receptive/expressive language deficits, students learning English as a second language, and autism. Additionally, PIL offers a variety of workshops to train teachers in supporting students in areas of need.
We enjoy supporting students from a variety of schools and work closely with teachers to align content and ensure students carry over skills from tutoring and speech into the classroom. Some of the schools that our students attend include GDS, St. Patricks, NPS, Landon, St. Albans, Lowell, Maret, Norwood, and public schools in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
CommuniKids Language Immersion Preschool offers full-day Spanish immersion in DC for children 18 months to 2 /12 years of age. As part of the DC’s Enhancement and Expansion Program, DC residents can enter lottery and get FREE PreK 3 and 4. Our programs are NAEYC accredited which is the gold standard in early childhood education. Our Falls Church Location offers your choice of Spanish, French, or Mandarin Immersion programs for children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age. All locations offer before and aftercare, weekly language classes, afterschool programs, and summer camps.
Moonlit Wings performing arts programs are WINNERS of Washington Family Magazine’s 2020 “Best for Families” contest for the categories of “Best Arts Program” and “Best Children’s Theatre & Drama Instruction.” These award-winning programs include acting classes, camps and advising for arts college admissions. Founded in 2008, Moonlit Wings Productions produces creative events and award-winning educational programs that elevate the greater DC area as a major hub for theater and filmmaking through collaborations from NY, LA and beyond.
Learning Leaf is a unique Reggio-Emilia Approach inspired child development center providing exceptional care for Infants (6 weeks) to Pre-K. The North America Caribbean Training Method (NACTM) Academy is a national soccer school and summer camp program open to all levels of players between the ages of 5 to 18. The program promotes Caribbean coaches living in North America as well as coaches living in the Caribbean. Every year we invite youth Caribbean national team coaches to the United States and Canada as a coaching exchange program to learn from our North American based coaches. This knowledge translates to the players who learn the Caribbean methodology of training which is fast pace, high-tempo, and fun! Our camps are age specific. Our 5-8 year old curriculum focuses on teaching our students how to develop a love for the game. Our 9-12 year old curriculum focuses on ball mastery and technical skill development. Our 13-15 year old curriculum focuses on teaching our campers how to play the game at a high level with emphasis on tactics. Our 16-18 year old program prepares players for the next phase which in most cases is the college soccer game.
Camp Under the Stars is a nonprofit, overnight summer camp for ages 5-12 with a leadership program for ages 15-17. We are located in the Prince William Forest National Park in Dumfries, Virginia.
Our mission is to provide a supportive, inclusive camp community that values each child’s uniqueness, celebrates our differences, and respects nature and the planet.
Our camp program is outside in nature in the National Park. Camp activities include mindfulness & yoga, hiking, waterfall walks, cooking nutritious campfire meals, library, art, STEM, and outside play.
The one-week overnight camp program for ages 5-12 is designed for first-time campers and those who have camped before. Campers live in cabins with cots and electric lights, with flush toilets very close by. Some meals take place in the dining hall and others are prepared over a campfire.
The Culinary CIT program is a one-week, overnight camp-volunteer-in-training program for ages 15-17. This unique program includes learning to be a camp volunteer as well as culinary education in the kitchen and over the campfire. CITs will learn about child development and positive ways to interact with younger children. In the kitchen, CITs will improve their cooking and baking skills and help to prepare and cook camp meals. There will also be time for camp fun like art, hiking, waterfall walks, yoga, and more!

For Love of Children (FLOC) mission is to provide educational support and services beyond the classroom to help students succeed from second grade through college and career. We offer intervention tutoring programs meant for students who are behind in reading and/or math. Our tutors start where the students are to help build their foundational skills in these subjects. After 28 hours, students can regain at least 1 year of grade level proficiency. We work exclusively with the DC population by teaching, empowering and transforming students’ lives through our Neighborhood Tutoring Program. Along with coaching through college and career readiness in our City Leaders program.
Washington Conservatory of Music is a nationally accredited, nonprofit community music school serving children, teens, and adults in the Washington, D.C. metro area, through individual lessons on all instruments and voice, group classes, camps, and ensembles taught by highly-credentialed educators and professional musicians. Teaching is in-person and online. WCM also provides free professional concerts for the community and an outreach music program for underserved children.
The Cinema Academy launches its filmmaking program designed for middle school youth. Our program is unique in its two-pronged approach: develop the creative/ technical side as well as build the social skills necessary for creative collaboration. Students learn the art of communication, leadership and team building – all in the process of filmmaking. This year-long academic program (September–May) guides students from concept to screen, including screenwriting, directing, production, and editing. Directed by Professor Lucy Gebre-Egziabher, weekly classes take place on Saturdays from 10 am – 1 pm at HB Woodlawn, serving students in Arlington, Alexandria, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Since 2005, Mamistad has been forming first pregnancy/new mom groups for moms who are due/delivered within 3 months of one another and will be SAHMs (stay-at-home moms) or OMs (office moms) as they will. Groups face the many challenges and joys of motherhood together, sharing information, support and memories! Dads are also encouraged to connect as well and before you know it, communities are born.
There is a one-time fee to join a private group but we can work together on it if necessary. The goal is to connect and avoid the pitfalls that seem to become more prevalent with each generation of new moms being further from “home” or deeper into careers and jobs. Isolation during pregnancy and new motherhood is quicksand – but when you have lots of moms in the same boat, your chances of avoiding that isolation are much greater.

Seeking Child Participants for Studies at Georgetown University!
Dear DC Area Moms,
We are the Learning and Development Lab at Georgetown University: a group of researchers studying language learning and child development. We need your help to understand how children learn!
At our lab, we use simple games and activities to understand how children learn languages and other patterns. Our research is made possible through the support of families like yours. We are looking for children between the ages of 4 and 9 to participate in our research studies.
Participating is easy! Right now, all of our studies are conducted online. In the study that we are running right now, your child will learn a made-up language (we call it Silly Speak) by playing a computer game online (with our help). The study consists of two parts, each 20-30 minutes long, which take place on different days. We offer $20 compensation per child.
