#GDSSpirit is More than a Meme

Cookies emblazoned with #1, colorful balloons, and special signage. . . Such fanfare defines Geneva Day School’s celebration of the thrilling announcement that readers of “Bethesda Magazine” have again recognized it as “Best Preschool” and for a first time, dubbed Geneva Summer Program “Best Summer Program.”

Over the moon to receive these distinctions, Geneva heartily thanks all family, friends, and neighbors for this expression of support. Truly, #GDSSpirit runs strong when there is so much for which the school is grateful.

This spring, gratitude also goes to the spectacular Parents’ Association (GPA), which hosts an Online Auction set to benefit the school’s needs. Thoughtful donations pour in: wine baskets, an oil painting, other artisanal pieces, experiences, and so much more.

Two breathtaking, handcrafted works are the result of soldering excess stained glass from the windows of Geneva Presbyterian Church, which serves as the site of the school, having founded it in 1965 as one of its missions. . . Bidding is set for this March 28 – April 3.

Although Geneva remains a non-denominational, traditional preschool, it is infused with “stained glass radiance.” As of March, the school, the parents, and the church collaborate on a humanitarian aid project to assist compromised mothers and children within the Ukraine and at its borders.

Summer Fun at Geneva Day School

Yet perhaps it is the upcoming Summer Program where #GDSSpirit acquires its most jubilant decibels. Nine weeks of irresistible themes, outdoor recreation, and exploration of an enchanting, nearby creek have everyone exclaiming “hooray!”

Summer Program Director, Ms. Daisy Lizama states: “(This is) a phenomenal experience that warms the heart. . . The kids engage in different activities that are all hands-on, educational, and fun. . . They are not only engaging for children, but also for staff and volunteers.”

Just as Geneva looks forward to offering its award-winning program to those lucky enough to have snagged a spot within the first weeks of enrollment (slots went quickly!), the program can’t wait to welcome a new batch of counselors who are keen to take the lead for a summer of meaningful responsibility and fun.

Local middle and high school students with experience in childcare and a passion for the out-of-doors should consider applying. A lifelong love of learning really does begin in a #GDSSpirit summer!
