Kids’ Highland Dance Class

The Alexandria School of Highland Dance will be offering Scottish Highland dance classes for brand new dancers, both boys and girls, from January-April 2024 in Del Ray, Alexandria.

Primary (age 4-6) is a fun, creative movement-based class where students will learn the very basic Highland dance positions, movements, and dances alongside essential dance skills like balance, coordination, and rhythm, all while making new friends and learning about another culture. This introduction to Highland dancing is meant for children with little to no dance experience. Mondays, 5:30-6:15 PM.

Scottish Highland dancing is a style of solo competitive dance which was originally done in ancient times by Scottish warriors: it’s the perfect mix between modern sport and traditional artform. You can recognize it by the dancers’ kilts and the bagpipe music! All dancers have the chance to compete, perform, or just come dance for fun. You definitely don’t have to be Scottish to enjoy Scottish dancing!
