What is a Mombassador?

Mombassadors are local moms who want to help inspire, connect, support, and engage with other moms, both online and in-person. Mombassadors help our online Community and Conversation Neighborhood Groups run smoothly by moderating the FB group, posting regularly to interact with members, and hosting in-person and/or virtual events for moms in the area. *Mombassadors are volunteers.*

We are currently looking for 2-5 Mombassador leaders for each group. Whether you’re a new mom, new to the area, or just want to meet and make new friends, this is the perfect way to get to know local area moms!

What are the Mombassador expectations?

Mombassadors are responsible for engaging within their neighborhood community and conversation groups and creating and/or attending events put on for these groups. Our goal isn’t to make giant groups, our goal is to make meaningful connections and true friendships with local mothers to help motherhood feel less lonely!

This is a volunteer position. We ask for at least a six month commitment. We want to be good stewards with these groups. For some moms, they are a life-line!

Our basic expectations are:

  • Approve new members in the group (and keep bots/fake accounts out).
  • Add new members emails to our email list (simply copy and paste the email and hit “subscribe”).
  • Post in the group (at least once a week) and monitor and interact with posts and comments throughout the day. Or schedule relevant posts throughout the month.
  • Share relevant information from DC Area Moms’ content in groups or other relevant articles, posts, resources, etc. from other websites and sources.
  • Remove “spam” or advertising from the group if/when you see it.
  • Host at least one casual event every six months (January-June, July-December). This can be at a local park, local coffee shop, play place, etc. Never represent DC Area Moms to a business without confirming with Courtney first.
  • Add gatherings to our event calendar.
  • Moderate event pages for MNOs; answering questions, get people engaged to attend, respond to posts, and monitor RSVPs.
  • Attend and be engaged for MNOs, play dates, or Mombassador meetings.
  • Respond to emails in a timely manner.
  • Mombassadors from all groups will be a part of an exclusive Facebook Group with fellow Mombassadors to share ideas, thoughts, questions, etc.
  • Represent DC Area Moms well by being respectful, having integrity, being inclusive, doing things with excellence, and inspiring others.

How do I apply?

Overall, Mombassadors are local moms who have a heart for moms by bringing community, friendship, and fun to motherhood through our local neighborhood groups. Also, when doing something “new” no one is ever completely ready especially with the wonderful chaos of motherhood. If you feel a tug on your heart and have the time to commit, then please apply. Also, these are new roles and we will have learning curves. If you are ready to be a part of DC Area Moms in this fun way, apply today!

Courtney Whittington
Courtney was born and raised in Louisiana where she met her husband (married in 2005). They have moved several times, but finally feel very settled in NW DC after moving back in 2016. She has four energetic kids: Cormac (2010), Evangeline (2013), Solomon (2016), and Antoinette (2019). She thinks motherhood is absolutely wonderful, but is constantly trying to figure out how to manage it all. She spends her days talking Star Wars, playing with legos, doing crafts, having tea parties, and chasing her toddler. Motherhood is wonderful and wild and in 2017 she banded together with other mothers to start DC Area Moms to inspire, learn, and grow together. She loves morning coffee, chocolate, chatting with people since she's an extrovert, a clean house (which is rare these days). She dislikes when her kids don't listen the first time, she abhors littering, and doesn't enjoy shopping.
