Summer is finally here and it’s time to start enjoying all that the season has to offer! June offers DC-area residents so many options for family fun. This month, families can enjoy a variety of events to celebrate Pride Month and Juneteenth. If you have music lovers, history buffs, or art aficionados in your family, you will find several events to appeal to them. What better place to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary than at the home of our Declaration of Independence? On Friday, visitors will enjoy family-friendly activities such as face painting, Disney music, and a patriotic selfie-station. There will also be historical re-enactors and opportunities to explore family roots with Ancestry. On Saturday, bring your fur babies to Yappy Hour from 9am until noon for music, pet-themed caricatures, face painting, selfie stations, treat and swag giveaways, and a Patriotic Pooch Contest. Please note that all dogs attending must have proof of a current rabies vaccination.

Each Friday at 8:45pm, the public can enjoy the music, camaraderie, and precision of the Marine Corps at Marine Barracks Washington, DC. “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform, as well as “The Commandant’s Own” United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, and the esteemed United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. World Ocean Day Celebration

The Museum has created a variety of interactive activities to celebrate World Ocean Day that guests will find in the Sant Ocean Hall. From 11am until 3pm, visitors can stop by any of the Conversation Stations and chat with scientists about being good stewards of the ocean through research, conservation, and storytelling. Head to National Harbor on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am throughout the summer for a variety of engaging programming for kids. This month, WHUT, Howard University Television, will offer fun educational experiences based on PBS Kids content. Also, the Prince George’s County Police Department and Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department will be on hand for meet and greets. Finally, folks from the Mount Vernon Estate will provide an interactive music program and give kids the chance to create their own Revolutionary War flags. All of these family-friendly events are FREE.

This annual Smithsonian event is sure to delight any kid or kid at heart who is fascinated by flight. Over 50 various aircrafts will be flown in for this one day event. Visitors can get up close and even inside the modern and vintage crafts. Pilots will be on hand to discuss the engineering, design, and flight of these impressive machines. Printing Press Demonstrations

The first collection of published Shakespeare’s plays, the First Folio, was made possible by the innovation of the printing press. The Folger Shakespeare Library offers FREE monthly demonstrations of how a printing press works. Visitors can even take home a copy of what is printed during the demonstration. There is a demonstration from 1:30pm to 2:30pm and from 3pm to 4pm.

Capital Pride Parade

The Capital Pride Parade is back for its 2026 celebration! The event celebrates the history and evolution of the LGBTQ+ neighborhoods of DC. This year, this exciting 1.8 mile parade route will start at 3pm at 14th and T Streets NW, run through Thomas Circle, and end at 9th and Pennsylvania Ave NW. While you can celebrate anywhere along the parade route for FREE, you can also purchase ticketed Grandstand seating. If you have little ones, check out the Capital Pride Family Fun Festival before the parade (11am until 3pm). There will be loads of fun, family-friendly activities available.

Over 40 years ago, France began throwing city-wide celebrations on the summer solstice where live music would be played and enjoyed everywhere, from rooftops to parks to sidewalks. Head to Georgetown where the Georgetown BID, Georgetown Heritage, and the Embassy of France-Villa Albertine will host the 3rd annual Fête de la Musique here in DC. More than 40 acts will entertain audiences in over 10 outdoor locations and 2 stages at the French Embassey during this FREE event.
Children’s Theater-in-the-Woods

Each summer, Wolf Trap National Park hosts programming for kids at its Children’s Theater-in-the-Woods. This year, the summer season kicks off on June 20. Attendees can expect a wide variety of performers throughout the summer, including dance, music, puppetry, and storytelling. Capital Pride Festival

This celebratory annual event has multiple food courts, beverage gardens, and stages filled with entertaining performances throughout the day and into the night. The event is capped off by the Capital Pride Concert, which will feature a lot of notable artists including the headliner, Maren Morris. The Capital Pride Festival and Concert are FREE, but tickets can be purchased to access the Capitol Stage Pit Zone and the VIP Zone. DCPL Family Day at The Phillips Collection

Participating families will learn about the artist, Jacob Lawrence, and his creative process by exploring his Migration Series. The 34th Annual Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle is back and is sure to be fun for the whole family. Enjoy free BBQ samples and lots of other food options. Be inspired by cooking demos. Cheer on competitors in cooking contests. Jam to live musical performances by The Backyard, The Chuck Brown Band, The Kim Michelle Experience, and more. Families will enjoy the Kidz Zone, which features games, prizes, and ice cream. Tickets available online.
