As a kid, Valentine’s Day was always one of my favorite holidays. I loved the crafts, creating valentines, exchanging valentines with my friends, and the treats. I see Valentine’s Day as a good reason to celebrate all types of love- romantic relationships, friendships, our kids, and our kids’ friendships! This Valentine’s Day, I’m hosting a playdate party for my toddlers and their friends. Here’s what we’re up to!
1. Decorations
I’m treating this little event as somewhere between a playdate and a party; think elevated playdate. We’ll have themed tablecloths, plates, balloons, and a banner. I am in my banner era so painted banners are making their appearance for any occasion this year.
2. Crafts and Valentines
We will do a couple of crafts during the playdate. I did throw out the option for the kids to exchange valentines. What toddler doesn’t love giving and getting cute little cards? The kids will be able to decorate their own Valentine’s Day bag and color coloring sheets.
3. Read Aloud
Love an opportunity for a themed read aloud! Check out this list of Valentine’s Day books. We’ll be reading this book about Saint Valentine. Squirmy toddlers learn so much from reading with their friends and experiences to support what they’re seeing and hearing in a story.
4. Snacks
Is there anything more important to toddlers than their snacks? I’m not attempting any cute Pinterest recipes this time around. It’s a morning playdate so we’ll have fruit, muffins, pouches, juice, and water. If you’re looking for more themed treats– check out these ideas!
I hope this gives you some ideas to host your own Valentine’s Day playdate. I’m not going for perfect, Pinterest-worthy, or even Instagramable. I’m aiming to create pockets of community and celebration in mine and my kids’ lives to help us stay focused on the good things. The things that matter like love, friendship, and snacks! Happy Valentine’s Day!
