1. Festivals

Attend a festival. Enjoy the competitions and performances from the Highlands at the 49th Virginia Scottish Games and Festival. The Greenbelt Labor Day Festival includes carnival rides and many children’s activities. And get ready to re-live the medieval times at the Maryland Renaissance Festival.

2. DC JazzFest

Celebrate all things jazz during DC JazzFest. With more than 100 concerts, DC JazzFest has the mission of spreading jazz to listeners of all generations. The signature event will take place at The Wharf on Labor Day weekend.

3. Union Market’s Rooftop Celebration

Grill and chill at the Union Market Hi-Lawn rooftop celebration with live music, water fun, lawn games, and a grill party.

4. National Symphony Orchestra Concert

Enjoy the end of outdoor music season with the annual Labor Day concert at the U.S. Capitol. This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to the National Symphony Orchestra for FREE.

5. Visit a Local Farm

September marks the beginning of Apple picking season. Visit one of the many farms near Washington DC. One of our favorite farms, Gaver Farm, with over 60 attractions, will celebrate opening day on September 1 with a touch a truck event too.

6. Mount Vernon Estate

Head to Virginia to spend a day at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s former estate that also features a museum. Remember, children ages 0-5 are FREE, adult tickets are $28, and youth tickets (age 6-11) are $15.

7. Enjoy an Outdoor Movie

Take your family to a movie under the stars at the National Harbor. Now is the time to soak up this weather and if you haven’t seen an outdoor movie yet, this is the perfect opportunity.

8. Labor Day Parades

Celebrate Labor Day with a parade. The Kensington Labor Day Parade and Festival features marching bands and dance groups, along with food trucks, kids activities, and live music. The Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade features high school marching bands, dance groups, costumed characters, antique cars & fire engines, equestrian units, clowns, and more.

9. Glen Echo Labor Day Art Show

Check out one of the largest art shows in the Washington, DC area. The Glen Echo Labor Day Art Show features more than 200 artists’ work in sculpture, painting, ceramics, glass, jewelry, fiber arts, furniture, and more!

10. Fairfax’s 24th Annual Labor Day Car Show

For car enthusiasts of all ages, big and small, see antique cars, classics, street rods, muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more at the 24th Annual Labor Day Car Show in Old Town Fairfax.

11. Camp as a Family

Go Family Camping at Camp Letts. Enjoy the sunsets, kayaking the river, ziplining, and family activities by the Chesapeake Bay.

12. Visit a Local Pool or Splash Park

And what better way of holding on to summer as much as you can than going to the beach or enjoying the last days of outdoor pools and splash parks.
