Here is our Q&A with Christina Babcock
1. Tell us about your career start in the US Air Force and your transition to consulting.
After graduating College, I commissioned in the Air Force and my first week on Active Duty was 16 August 2001. Little did I know that a month later, serving in the military would take on a vastly different meaning. I spent 10 years serving Air Force families by overseeing Human Resource type functions. I started in Idaho, then the Pentagon and finally Oklahoma. During my years in the service, I deployed to combat zones 3 times. As I left the Air Force, I moved back to Northern Virginia and became a Defense Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton and eventually moved to Guidehouse. I married my Husband Bill when I moved back to Virgina and had Isaac and Rylee along the way. I currently do Human Capital Strategy Consulting as an Associate Director for Guidehouse. I love that I still get to serve our military families through my work and help my clients continue to build stronger teams.
2. How did you initially get involved in community service and the Junior League?
As a military member who moved often, I always encountered the Junior League wherever I went. When I finally settled in the DC area, I knew I had to get involved. I wanted to serve in the community I was now permanently calling home. After I joined, I realized how much more the Junior League was. It was an opportunity to serve in the community, support our community with grants and volunteer resources, and invest in the next generation. The league also developed me into a more confident and dynamic leader. Junior League helped me find my voice and connect to the community in new ways.
3. How has your involvement in community service impacted you as a parent?
I love getting to involve my kids in as many aspects of serving in the Junior League as I can. All four of us serve together as well. The Junior League has embraced my whole family. They love my kids, tell jokes with my husband, and have become a community that enriches us in so many ways. As a mom it has given me the opportunity to model service for my kids and but also model a desire to continuously grow and develop. Balancing the needs of the organization and the family at home is always tricky. I do my best to keep my calendar current and try to have regular schedule meetings with my Husband so I can make sure we both know what the week looks like. He is an amazing partner and helps keep everything running smoothly.
