Sonyea Garner is a Project Analyst in Washington, DC.  She currently resides in Colombia, MD with her 4 year old daughter, Emma.  Sonyea was born and raised in Northern California and truly enjoyed growing up in the sunny state, however, she had the desire to move to NYC where she started her career and ran a successful apparel company in Brooklyn for a decade. After starting a family, she quickly realized the hustle and bustle New York lifestyle was no longer for her.  She made a life changing decision to move to the DC area and shift careers to a corporate stable life close to her family.  Her previous career of running her own company gave her the skills to analyze projects successfully and is thriving in her current analytic career.  She enjoys spending time with her daughter, Emma, and exploring everything the DMV has to offer.

Here is our Q&A with Sonyea:

As a single Mom how do you balance remote work, remote schooling, and have a social life?

As a single Mom, balancing remote work and remote schooling can be challenging.  The key is to be organized, open minded and not too hard on yourself. I focus on being present and not allowing myself to lose focus.  It is a balancing act but I truly feel like it has given me a skill like no other and I have learned so much about myself in a positive way during these times.  I wake up an hour early and meditate, it truly helps me stay in a positive frame of mind throughout my day.  My friends and I zoom a few times a month, we call it Wine Night.  We catch up, vent and discuss topics that help us through Motherhood.

How do you stay positive durning this pandemic?

When Covid first hit, I realized quickly I needed to shift my paradigm to survive this pandemic.  I started reading about the Law of Attraction and meditating.  After I put my daughter to bed, I do an absorbent amount of reading about meditation and The Law of Attraction which has shifted my life in a positive way tremendously.  I love The Mindfulness App, The Meditative Mind YouTube channel, and love this I Am affirmation video.  I have also listened to The Secret several times in an audio format. My advice to Moms is to find some form of meditation and always self care!

What are three things you want your child to learn from you?

I want my daughter to always see me as a strong person with integrity, morals and values. I teach her to wake up with an attitude of gratitude and to be thankful every morning for everything she has before she gets out of bed. We focus on always using words like I can and I will.  She is always taught to think prosperously and apply it to her life in every way.  I believe this will help her succeed through school, her career, and every situation she goes through in life.
