Meet our Mom of the Month Shana Greenbaum

Meet our February Mom of the Month: Shana Greenbaum

Shana Greenbaum is a mother, entrepreneur, and visionary who turned her passion for health and family into a thriving business.

Raised in a home where discipline and wellness were a way of life, she learned early the value of balance — a lesson that now defines both her family and her company, Healthy Fresh Meals.

What began in her own kitchen has grown into one of the region’s leading fresh meal delivery services, providing nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for families, seniors, professional athletes, kids, government contracts, and healthcare programs.

As a mom of two, Shana approaches her work with empathy and realism, understanding that nourishing others goes far beyond what’s on the plate. Her leadership style reflects her life philosophy — stay grounded, work with purpose, and create space for what matters most. “I’ve always believed that food connects us. It’s how I take care of my family — and now, it’s how I help others take care of theirs.”

Here is our Q&A with Shana Greenbaum

1. As a busy mom and entrepreneur, how do you find balance between work, family, and taking care of yourself?

Finding balance is always a work in progress — I don’t think it’s ever perfectly even, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to focus on what truly matters in each moment instead of trying to do everything at once. My mornings usually start early at 4-4:30am with a quick workout before my kids wake up — it gives me the energy and clarity I need for the day.

Once the kids are off to school, I shift into business mode by checking in with my team, visiting the kitchen, or working on business development. Late afternoon, I try to transition back into mom mode —dinner, bath, and maybe a walk or some downtime together before bed.

Self-care for me is about little things — eating well, moving my body, and giving myself grace. Balance isn’t perfect, but it’s intentional.

2. What are some realistic tips you’d share with other moms who want to feed their families healthier meals — especially when time and energy are limited?

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that healthy doesn’t have to mean complicated. Most moms already have full plates — so give yourself permission to simplify. I love prepping a few basics on Sundays, like roasted veggies, simple proteins for grab and go, and cooked grains. I do my basic shopping this day also. That way, during the week, I can mix and match quick meals without starting from scratch.

I also keep my kitchen stocked with “healthy convenience” items — fresh and dried fruit, yogurt, cut veggies and tzatziki, applesauce.

And honestly, it’s about progress, not perfection. Some nights it’s a homemade meal if I have the time, and other nights it’s meals from my business. What matters most is that we sit down together, and I know and trust that they are filling themselves with healthy and nourishing food.

3. Living in the DC area, what are your favorite local spots or activities for family time or recharging on your own?

I grew up close to Georgetown and my mom still lives there. I love taking my kids to the Palisades Recreation Center to play and run around, I love the farmers market there on Sundays! The Wharf and Union Market are my go-to’s when I want to have a meeting and get outside. Both are great for different reasons! I love the vendors at Union and the community there, and when I want to walk outside the Wharf is just great. When I get some free time, laughter is the best for my soul and wellbeing, so I love going to DC Improv and catching any show they have.
