We are avid travelers and have found that exploring new places on a budget can be just as enjoyable. And what better destination to put my budget skills to test than Disney World? This magical place is known for being one of the most popular tourist destinations around the world, but it can be quite costly. We have gone twice in less than 18 months. Here are my tips for visiting Disney World for less.

Why Budget Travel?

First of all, I would like to start by saying that traveling should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Travel has the power to broaden our perspectives, foster cultural understanding, and create lifelong memories. It also helps families recharge and relieve stress. By providing information and resources on budget-friendly travel, we can help more people experience the benefits of travel.

Visit Disney World for Less: 16 Budget-Friendly Tips for Your Next Trip

1. Visit during the off-season

Crowds and prices are lower in January and February, as well as September and early November.

2. Purchase tickets in advance

Prices are often highest at the gate. Also, checkout hotel packages that offer ticket discounts. Lastly, take your kids before they’re 3, for free admission.

3. Check with a Disney travel agent

Despite the misconception that booking with a Disney travel agent can be more expensive, the opposite is usually the case. They are aware of all the latest deals and can help you visit Disney World for less by applying these discounts and promotions to your trip.

4. Stay off-site

There are plenty of budget-friendly hotels and rental properties outside of the Disney World resort. Some of these hotels also offer free shuttles to the parks, so you can save on parking or taxi fares.

5. Pack your own food

Bring snacks and drinks from home to save on food costs while at the park. Plus many accommodations have kitchens or kitchenettes to make your own meals.

6. Skip the Park Hopper

Skip the Park Hopper pass especially if you are traveling with little kids. It is less likely that you will have the capacity to visit more than one park per day and fully enjoy the experience.

7. But purchase Genie+

Genie+ will allow you to use your time more efficiently. This allows guests to skip lines for popular attractions which saves time and money.

8. Avoid predictable yet avoidable costs

Bring the following items:

  • Refillable water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Ibuprofen
  • Rain jacket
  • Umbrella

9. Buy your Mickey ears ahead of time

Chances are you will want Disney gear when you’re in the parks. Mickey ears at Disney cost $30, but you can get a pair of two for $8.99 on Amazon.

10. Take advantage of discounts

Look for discounts on tickets, hotels, and other expenses. Such as military, AAA, or Florida resident discounts.

11. Avoid souvenirs

You can find more affordable Disney products at supermarkets, outlets, and small shops. Bring a camera and take plenty of photos instead of buying expensive souvenirs.

12. Arrive early

Avoid the crowds and lines by getting to Disney early. Plus, children have the energy and are ready to conquer the day in the morning.

13. Use a cashback credit card and earn cash back on everything you buy

I only recommend this if you already have a credit card that offers cash back. There is no need to open one more credit card just for your trip.

14. Have rest days between park days

On non-park days, which are crucial when traveling to Disney with little ones, take advantage of hotel and resort activities and amenities. Your feet will also thank you!

15. Watch fireworks on the beach

Finally: Go to Disney Polynesian Village Resort for dinner and stay to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks on the beach—for free!

16. Plan ahead

Overall, the most important advice is to plan ahead! Research the best deals and create a budget for your trip to stay on track to avoid overspending.
