Halloween Movies for Kids

0

Halloween is a big deal in our house. We are constantly making Halloween crafts and are keeping our social distance at multiple pumpkin patches across the DMV this year. We are also big fans of lots of Halloween books. But let’s face it, sometimes we need a little Halloween screen time. Here are some of our favorite Halloween movies for those moments when you need the screen time to grab a break for yourself or want to snuggle up for family movie night.

Halloween Movies for Kids of All Ages

The Addams Family (Animated Version)

Did you know there’s an animated version of The Addams Family? Neither did I until last night. It is classily creepy and kooky and has a good message in the end. Charlize Theron, Allison Janney, Snoop Dog, Tituss Burgess, and Catherin O’Hara are just a sampling of the voices you’ll recognize from the all-star cast. The Addams Family is included with Amazon Prime Video and also available on Hulu and Epix.

Casper

My kids seem to have a constant craving for things that are spooky this year. Hence, ghosts are a big deal for us this year. After I referenced Casper the Friendly Ghost a number of times, the kiddos finally asked, “Who’s Casper?” Casper is on Freeform, Disney+, and available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Halloweentown

Halloweentown is a made for TV movie from the movies that seems to be an annual tradition for quite a few people. Three siblings learn the grandma and mom are witches, and sssshhh! The kids turn out to be witches too! Will the family be able to save Halloweentown from a rogue Warlock? You’ll just have to watch and see. Halloweentown is on Freeform, Disney+, and available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Hocus Pocus

Are you kids too young for Hocus Pocus? Nah, probably not. My four-year-old twins kicked off fall by watching Hocus Pocus, and now they ask for it every Friday during family movie night. Hocus Pocus is on Freeform, Disney+, and available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

Hotel Transylvania

Hotel Transylvania is an animated movie with Dracula voiced by Adam Sandler. Dracula runs a resort and things go astray when a human boy finds the hotel and falls for Dracula’s daughter. Hotel Transylvania seems to be in the Freeform Halloween movie rotations, on Starz, and available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

The classic holds up. Officially approved by my kids at ages two, three, and four, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown airs on ABC and streams on Hulu.

Toy Story of Terror!

The Disney+ Halloween section has a number of shorts. A hidden gem among them for my Toy Story fans is Toy Story of Terror! These shorts are great to sneak in when you don’t want the kiddos to watch an entire movie, or get pulled into the vortex of accidentally watching too many episodes of Mikey Mouse Clubhouse. Toy Story of Terror! is available on Disney+ and to buy on Amazon Prime Video.

Have another Halloween movie you recommend for kiddos?  Drop it in the comments.  We are always looking for new inspiration.
