Wait, a beach in Northern Virginia?!

It’s worth noting that while you can see people swimming in the river, it is not recommended because of the hazardous conditions, but you can fish on the pier. As you walk along the pier, you cross over from Virginia to Maryland, which my son found really cool.

So Much to Do
While we opted for a leisurely picnic and a walk along the pier, the park has plenty to do. We enjoyed our day and can’t wait to enjoy more of the amenities. Families can also enjoy:
- hiking trails
- a playground
- rent kayaks, canoes, and sailboats
- participate in children’s programs like Junior Ranger events and fishing tournaments
- snacks from Breakwater Store (open Memorial Day to Labor Day, Friday to Sunday)
- public restrooms and park office if you need help

Hours: M-F 6 a.m. to a half-hour after sunset, Sat. and Sun 5 a.m. to a half-hour after sunset.
