7 Local, Mom-Owned Businesses to Know

The holiday season has arrived! As a small business owner and mom, I am always searching for local fellow makers and creators.  We share seven local, mom-owned businesses to shop from to cross off everyone on your list. These makers and moms are bosses in business that create with passion and perseverance. From handcrafted children’s gifts to seasonal adult treats–local businesses are at the top of our wish list!

1. Mother Procraftinator

Mother Procraftinator, a Baltimore-based home décor shop, is adding sass to the holiday season. Owner Jess launched her business after giving birth to her son in 2018. Many of her products – from the Charm City journal to the state silhouette wood ornament – highlight Maryland pride. Her bathroom signs, wood cover journals, and other handmade items are perfect to give this holiday season!

2. Bug and Bloom

Bug and Bloom (formerly Centaur Rising) offers children’s clothing, accessories, and other creations that embrace individuality in childhood. As a mother of two, owner Vanessa has been inspired by her children to create products that they love. Her little ones often grab her creations before they are done. From dolls and blankets to ornaments and beanies, your children will love the colorful selection at Bug and Bloom.

3. Auggie Froggy

From stay-at-home mom to maker, Kathleen spends her days designing, cutting fabric, sewing, and painting wands in her DC-based home studio. After a few years of receiving compliments on things she’d made for her son, Kathleen launched Auggie Froggy.  She enjoys sharing her creations with other children and families. Auggie Froggy inspires imagination and creative play with whimsical wands, soft-soled shoes, and colorful crowns.

4. Katie Jane Co.

Katie Jane Co. is a clothing line of workwear for pumping moms. When Molly, a mother of two, returned to work, she discovered the lack of professional dress options for breastfeeding mothers. With the support of her husband and a community of local business owners, Molly collaborates with mothers in the DMV during a significant transition in motherhood. If you know a pregnant or new mom, check out Katie Jane Co.’s collection of conscious and convenient dresses for holiday gifting!

6. ROSIE Candles

ROSIE Candles bring a sense of relaxation and comfort to make it through the holidays. Owner JaLaura encourages self-care and maintaining balance in a busy lifestyle. Add “Cozy Cuddles” – one of her most popular holiday scents – to your wish list!
