Top Spots for DC Crawlers

National Children’s Museum

This is a must-visit for the tiniest explorers. They have two dedicated, walled-off sections for babies and toddlers ages 0–3: Little Dreamers and Little Movers. These are shoe-free zones with soft floors, mirrors, and gentle climbing structures perfect for “building” those gross motor skills.

Pro-tip: Check out their Baby Jam on Mondays at 2:30 p.m. for a guided sensory experience.

National Building Museum

While many exhibits are for older kids, the museum is famous for its massive, open Great Hall where babies often enjoy the sheer scale. The Play Work Build exhibit features a soft, blue-foam block area that is great for crawlers.

Note: Entry to the building is free, but some exhibits like Play Work Build require a ticket.

Pink Moon

This is such a great space for mom to get some things done while baby crawls around in their fun play area for little ones (no shoes allowed!). This is a membership based community that allows little ones to play while mom works out, works, or simply has a moment.

Library of Congress

The Young Readers Center at the Library of Congress is a large room filled with books, a puppet area, interesting items to explore, and more. Please note you need timed (free) entry passes to enter the building.

Public Libraries

Our local libraries are hidden gems for crawlers. Most branches, like the MLK Jr. Memorial Library or Georgetown Neighborhood Library, have dedicated children’s areas with soft mats, puzzles, and board books.

Can’t-miss: Look for Baby Lap Time sessions—these are specifically designed for non-walkers to enjoy stories and songs in a safe group setting.

Wegmans Wonderplace (American History Museum)

Specifically designed for ages 0–6, this space includes a fenced-in area for the youngest visitors with age-appropriate textures and sensory walls.
