Checking in on My “No Resolutions” Resolutions

0

At the beginning of the year, I wrote this post on my “no resolutions” resolutions for 2024. And now I am here, checking in on my “no resolutions” resolutions to see how the year has been.

I’m doing this because I am curious in reflecting on if and how anything has changed for me with having these types of resolutions for the year. Have I changed my mindset and started thinking more positively on what I want to work on? Have I felt less pressure to do them because some are more low stakes? I wanted to sit down and reread my list, see and think about how things have gone.

So here is my list of what I said I was making my “no resolutions” resolutions are the beginning of the year? Let’s see how each one has gone.

My “No Resolutions” Resolutions for 2024

1. Do more face masks (especially ones that pull off stuff from your face)

So I’ve slacked on this one and haven’t done as many at home as I was anticipating. BUT what I have done is prioritized self care and gotten more massages and facials at spas then I have in the past. It’s relaxing for me and takes me away from the house, work, etc., for a few hours. So I’d say I’m doing well!

2. Find a signature scent

I haven’t found one yet, but that isn’t for lack of trying. I just haven’t come across something yet that wows me. This is a work in progress.

3. Celebrate more – the big and small – for myself, friends, and family

I think I am doing well on this! I’ve been making a conscience effort to do big reactions for even the smallest of wins at work. I’ve been telling all my friends we need to celebrate when anything exciting happens (if that celebration happens is hit or miss, but I’m trying over here!!!) I’m also trying different ways to celebrate, such as sending texts, DMs, or small gifts of appreciation when I feel like it’s right.

4. Wear more of the jackets that I already own

Ok so this one I feel like is a little complicated because I’ve barely worn jackets at all. But something I have done because of this resolution is really look at all the clothes and jackets I own and get rid of (donate or give to friends) things across my closet that I am not wearing. Huzzah!

5. Make more smoothies

This has not really happened this year and I blame having kids.

6. If I buy a toy for the kids, donate a toy

I haven’t done a “one in, one out” rule that I would love to do. However, we have cleaned out the kids’ toys and clothes multiple times this year and donated the things we no longer use.

7. Use more bath bombs and shower steamers

I’ve gone through spurts where I use lots of these and times where I don’t use any for a long time. So, meh.

8. Educate friends, family, and coworkers on why I love Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce together

This is basically my personality and I do this to everyone around me all the time.

I loved doing this reflection because it showed me how these resolutions have actually guided things I’ve done throughout the year. And what’s even more exciting for me is that very little of this, besides setting these resolutions at the beginning of the year, was extremely deliberate. Once I set them, I sort of forgot them. I’d randomly remember “oh yeah I am celebrating more this year!” when there was something to celebrate. I’d say “hmm, I don’t like this new sample perfume. Onto the next!” But this hasn’t been something that has dictated my days or my thoughts.

So, in 2024, so far, I’d say my “no resolutions” resolutions are going pretty well. And I’m excited about that!
