Meet our January Mom of the Month: Hillary Hamm
Hillary’s path from sunny California to Washington, D.C., began when she enrolled at George Washington University. That journey took an unexpected turn after a chance meeting in her freshman dorm laundry room with an international student from Germany. That serendipitous moment ultimately led her to build a life and career in the nation’s capital.
A proud mom to Fredi (5), Christian (3), and Annabelle (2). Hillary balances the joyful chaos of family life with a passion for creating memorable experiences. She has worked with some of the world’s most prestigious hospitality brands. This includes Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and Mandarin Oriental, mastering the art of world-class service and event execution. Today, as Senior Director of Events at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Hillary channels her expertise into producing first class events for the business community. Whether at home or at work, she believes in the power of meaningful moments to bring people together.
Here is our Q&A with Hillary Hamm
1. How have you learned to navigate three kids under 5 along with two
parents with busy careers?
I wouldn’t say we’ve mastered life with three kids under five — it’s more like we’re running a constantly evolving experiment. With no family nearby, we realized after our second was born that this was not the time to try and do it all ourselves. So, we built our “village”: an amazing au pair who helps with the kids, a housekeeper who comes weekly, laundry that gets sent out, and Instacart swooping in like a grocery-store superhero. These choices keep us sane and allow us to save our energy for the moments that really matter. We’re able to make memories like pizza and movie night and evenings at the pool (instead of just making dinner).
2. How has becoming a mom changed how you prioritize and operate?
Becoming a mom has made me far more intentional about how I prioritize my time and energy. Every decision feels more deliberate, because I know how quickly the days can fill up with school, activities, and endless to-dos. My husband and I make it a non-negotiable to have one date night each week and at least 15 minutes a day to check in with each other. Those small moments of connection keep us grounded, remind us we’re a team, and help us stay close amid the beautiful chaos of raising three little ones.
3. What’s something you never thought you’d be doing in this busy
time?
It took me almost five years to realize that being a mom isn’t just about doing things for the kids — it’s also about making space for myself. Over the past year, I’ve made it my mission to find hobbies and commitments that bring me joy outside of motherhood. Earlier this year, I served as Co-Chair for the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic Wish Luncheon. While my husband might say it added even more to my plate, I loved the challenge and the chance to support a cause I’m passionate about. I’m already looking forward to Co- Chairing again in 2026. And on a lighter note, I’ve officially joined the Mahjong craze — and I’m completely hooked!
